Centre to revive manuscript preservation mission
• The Union Ministry of Culture plans to revive and relaunch the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM).
• The NMM, part of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, is mulling the formation of an autonomous body, likely named the National Manuscripts Authority.
• A meeting chaired by Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat discussed the future of NMM.
• The NMM has prepared metadata for 52 lakh manuscripts and digitised over 3 lakh titles.
• Over the past 21 years, it has undertaken preventive and curative conservation of 9 crore folios.
