China responds with 34% tariff on all U.S. goods.
China’s Retaliatory Measures Against US Tariffs
• China imposes a 34% tariff on imports of all U.S. products from April 10, as part of retaliatory measures following U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” double-digit tariffs.
• The tariff matches the U.S. “reciprocal” tariff of 34% on Chinese exports ordered by Trump.
• The Commerce Ministry in Beijing plans to impose more export controls on rare earths, materials used in high-tech products.
• The list of minerals subject to controls includes samarium and its compounds, used in aerospace manufacturing and the defense sector.
• China’s customs administration suspended chicken imports from some U.S. suppliers after detecting furazolidone, a drug banned in China, in shipments.
• The Chinese government added 27 firms to lists of companies subject to trade sanctions or export controls, including 16 subject to a ban on the export of “dual-use” goods.
• Beijing has filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization over the tariffs.
