Indian-Americans Win US House of Representatives Election
• Six Indian-Americans, all Democrats, have been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
• Suhas Subramanyam, an Indian-American lawyer, became the first from the community to be elected from the East Coast.
• Subramanyam, a Virginia State Senator, joined the ‘Samosa Caucus’, which includes Ami Bera, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, and Shri Thanedar.
• All five existing Indian-American members were re-elected to the House of Representatives.
• Dr. Bera, a physician, is the senior-most Indian-American Congressman, representing the sixth Congressional District of California since 2013.
• Mr. Krishnamoorthi won the seventh Congressional District of Illinois for the fifth consecutive term.
• Pramila Jayapal, the first South Asian-American woman at the U.S. House, won the seventh Congressional District of Washington State for her fifth consecutive term.
• Mr. Khanna won the seventeenth Congressional District of California for the fourth consecutive term.
