• Chief Minister Mohan Yadav orders closure of liquor and meat shops in all religious towns along the Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh.
• Narmada, originating from Amarkantak, is considered a holy river in Hinduism and has numerous religious sites along its route.
• The decision was made at a Cabinet Committee meeting, which oversees the development action plan to maintain the river’s cleanliness and flow.
• The Chief Minister also urges the development of Amarkantak through the Amarkantak Development Authority, prioritizing environmental protection.
• The Cabinet Committee was informed that there are 21 districts, 68 tehsils, 1,138 villages, 1,126 ghats, 430 ancient temples of Lord Shiva, and two shaktieeths along the river.
• The Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress criticizes Yadav for neglecting Ujjain, a city along the river, and accuses him of misleading the public.
