    Malappuram District Restrictions Following Nipah Death

    • District administration imposes restrictions on social gatherings and masks after a 24-year-old man died from Nipah viral infection.
    • Five wards in Tiruvali and Mampad grama panchayats have been declared containment zones.
    • Schools, colleges, madrasas, anganwadis, and cinema halls in these zones will remain closed until Nipah restrictions are lifted.
    • District Collector V.R. Vinod advises people to wear masks in public places.
    • Students and teachers in schools and colleges in the district should wear masks on the campus.
    • Health Minister Veena George reports 126 of them on the primary contact list and 49 on the secondary.
    • The Health Department has opened a Nipah control room and advises anyone showing symptoms to reach out to the control room at (0483) 2732010/60.
    • Wards 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Tiruvali panchayat and Ward 7 of Mampad panchayat have been declared containment zones.
    • District Medical Officer R. Renuka advises seeking treatment from a doctor instead of self-medication.
    • Health workers have begun surveying all houses within a three-kilometre radius from the victim’s house.
