    Monsoon concludes with 8% more rain than usual: IMD

    • The southwest monsoon this year was 8% over its long-term average.
    • The IMD predicts above-normal rainfall in October and November.
    • 35% of India received excess rainfall, while 54% received normal rainfall.
    • Monthly rainfall was 89% of the average in June, 9% more than normal in July, 15% above normal in August, and 12% over normal in September.
    • The agency’s forecast for above-average rainfall aligns with actual performance.
    • La Nina, a cooling of the Central Equatorial Pacific, was predicted to be a key factor for bountiful rainfall.
    • The main reason for good rainfall was the formation of several low pressure systems from the Arabian Sea or the Bay of Bengal.
    • The IMD’s forecast predicts above-normal rainfall over south peninsular India from October to December.
